Head Coach Junior Roberts

Husband to a beautiful Maori woman, Father of 4, and former Marine. I’ve been coaching this wonderful game of Volleyball for over 14 years, and for the past 3 years I’ve been a referee for both high school and club. I started playing while in high school and helped my school start a club team before it was sanctioned in California. During college I played baseball before joining the Marine Corps in 1996. A year later, I was invited to play for the All Marine Corps team as the alternate setter during the ALL Services Games. It was an opportunity I’ll never forget, and our only loss was to the Air Force Academy in the finals. After six deployments to Iraq and one to Afghanistan, in 2007 I injured myself doing my second favorite activity… skateboarding… I’ll save that that story for another time. After my injury, I was medically discharged from my beloved Marine Corps in August of 2008. My injury forced me to teach myself how to hit and throw with my right hand. That experience lead me to coaching. Because of my kids I’ve coached baseball, softball, basketball, football, soccer and I’ve been a shot-put and javelin coach during track season. I began coaching at a small 1A school in WA and when we moved here to Utah back in 2016, I got my first coaching opportunity here at Timpanogos High School(Volleyball Asst Coach, HC for JV football and Throwers Coach for the track team). After helping my sister at Timpanogos, I became an assistant at Timpview helping them win 2 State titles before moving to Provo for the past two years being the Assistant Coach for my bro-in-law(and fellow Sand Coach) Kaniela. I am excited for the opportunity to coach here at Club Sand and look forward to helping your young athletes reach their goals. I’m a demanding but fair coach. I will give my utmost to your athletes and I will demand the same in return. I teach the fundamentals and I also focus on the mental part of the game. I am excited for this opportunity and look forward to working with your young athletes.
